Man convicted of drink driving

A Claremorris man who was observed driving on the wrong side of the road and who was found to be over the limit was convicted for drink driving at Ballinrobe District Court on Friday.

The facts of the case involving John Collins, Latterineen, Killitiane, Claremorris, were heard in December 2008, however Judge Devins adjourned the matter to hear further Garda evidence after discrepancies and “patchy” evidence.

Collins was observed by Garda Brendan McNulty on September 19 2005 at 11.15pm driving on the incorrect side of the road while coming around a bend over a continuous white line, in the Cappaduff area of Tourmakeady, with a subsequent intoxilyser analysis showing 71mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

Judge Devins said with further evidence given by gardaí at last week’s sitting that the case met all statutory proofs. Collins, who has no previous convictions and who has recently lost his job, was convicted and fined €600 and disqualified from driving for three years.
