Mayo's Fire Brigade headquarters in Castlebar was the venue for the special presentation night to the five lucky national school children who won prizes in the recently held online fire safety competition.
The presentations were made to the children by the Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Cllr Blackie Gavin (a long serving fire fighter with Castlebar Fire Brigade ) and the chief executive of Mayo County Council, Peter Hynes. Also in attendance was John Condon, director of services and Mr Seamus Murphy, chief fire officer.
The fire service welcomed the opportunity to host the presentation and reception in Castlebar Fire Station for the children, their families and teachers. The quiz involved children entering an online quiz competition restricted to children from national schools in Mayo. Children had to log onto a website – graduate.ie and answer questions in relation to fire safety in the home. Students who completed the quiz correctly then entered a draw to win prizes.
First prize of an Apple i-pad was won by: Sarah Raba from Breaffy National School, Ballina.
Runner up prizewinners who each received a kindle e-reader were: Tadhg Feerick (Irishtown N.S, Claremorris ); Oisín Noone (Foxford N.S, Foxford ); Seán Mc Namara, (Cloondaff N.S, Glenhest, Newport ) and Kate Heffernan (St, Joseph’s N.S, Rehins, Knockmore ).
