Dangerous driving conviction for motorist who collided with car

A man from Lithuania who lost control of his defective car and crashed into an oncoming car was disqualified from driving at Ballinrobe District Court last week.

Inspector Martin Byrne outlined that Marius Kuksta, Hilltop Crescent Apartments, Ballyhaunis Road, Claremorris, caused a traffic accident on August 26 2008 at 8.20pm, after the defendant lost control of the green Peugeot car which he was driving when he came to a bridge on the road from Hollymount to Ballinrobe. The Peugeot collided into a Ford Escort being driven by Mr Tom King who sustained serious injuries. Upon inspection of the car which Kuksta was driving, defects were noted — the indicators did not work and there were two bald tyres.

The defendant who represented himself told the court: “I did wrong but it happened.”

The supermarket employee was convicted and fined €750 by Judge Mary Devins and disqualified from driving for two years.
