Fiona to shave her head for charity

Castlebar native Fiona Gannon is hosting “Fiona’s Head Shave” on Saturday, February 23 in the clubhouse of Castlebar Celtic at 8pm.

Her aim is to raise as much money as possible for two organisations close to her heart. Chernobyl Children International and Rock Rose House will be the beneficiaries of all proceeds from the night. There will be live music with The Garveys and friends as well as DJ Niall Toner spinning the discs after.

Fiona will be traveling to Chernobyl on March 17 to work as a volunteer to help care for the people there. Then later in the year, she will be starting as a volunteer here in Castlebar in Rock Rose House. Fiona said: "My hope is to travel with the kindly donated money and on arrival, purchase essentials needed. I have been dreaming of this trip for three years and now am fulfilling what life is really about, people helping people."

On her return, Fiona will join the team of volunteers at Rock Rose House, Mayo Cancer Support’s service. She added: "We all know someone who has been touched by cancer and Rock Rose House is a wonderful facility for all of the county and the money will be used for therapies and support for cancer patients and their families at their difficult time."

Donations can be made through Fiona’s Facebook page or at the door on the night at Castlebar Celtic. Follow her journey on Instagram at fiona_castlebar.
