Kingdom calling for Mayo on Sunday

Hurling: National Hurling League

Mayo make the long trip to Tralee on Sunday as they go looking for their first win in this year's National Hurling League when they take on Kerry.

After putting in a spirited and fighting display to come back from half-a-dozen points behind to Meath early in the second half of their round one clash, to claim a draw, Mayo made the long trip to London a fortnight ago only for the game to be called off at short notice.

So Sunday's game will be their first outing in three weeks and they will take on a Kerry side who have one win and one defeat to their names so far in the league.

Kerry opened up their league season with a solid 1-21 to 2-16 win over Antrim in Belfast in round one, with Shane Conway hitting 0-12 and Jordan Conway chipping in with 0-5, while Jack Goulding grabbed 1-1 for the Munster men.

They followed that game up with another high scoring encounter in round two a fortnight ago, where they were beaten by Westmeath 4-13 to 2-17 at home. Conway was once again their main man on the scoreboard, bagging 1-10, but some silly mistakes allowed Westmeath get back into a game Kerry looked to have won and emerge two point winners.

Mayo will be looking to build on their draw in round one, where Shane Boland was the main man, bagging 0-10 over the 70 minutes. Derek Walsh has thrown his faith in the youth this year and he was rewarded by them in that game. This game is the start of a tough run of fixtures with a home clash against Antrim, then a road trip to Westmeath, followed by another jaunt across the Irish sea to play London in the re-arranged game - all before March 10.
