The launch of a new Achill Outreach Service by Mayo Cancer Support took place at the end of last month in Ostan Oilean Acla and the event was very well supported, with locals, GPs and area representatives including Councillor Paul McNamara in attendance.
The outreach service will be provided from the New Primary Healthcare Centre in Achill Sound and will be based on a person-centred approach to meet the individual needs of each client.
Mayo Cancer Support welcomes the fact it is in a position to develop services and reach out to other areas in Mayo that may not be able to access the main cancer support centre, Rock Rose, House in Castlebar, due to factors such as distance and transport.
A cancer journey is a very difficult time for a person attending a lot of hospital appointments and travelling for treatment is one of the main reasons outreach services are very important, as they provide support to people in their own local community.
Anyone interested in booking an appointment in the Achill Outreach Service can do so by contacting Rock Rose House on (094 ) 90 38407. This year, 2019, is a significant year for Mayo Cancer Support Association as it marks the 20th anniversary of the Association providing Cancer Support Services throughout Mayo.
