As part of their ongoing Airport Transformation programme, work has commenced on re-modelling and redesigning the existing Departures area at the airport to create a modern and spacious departures hall.
Passengers are advised that whilst most of the works will take place during the evening and night time there may be some disruption, noise and increased levels of dust in the departures area whilst the works are ongoing. The airport wishes to apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused whilst the works are ongoing.
Phase one of the project will be completed by the end of March and provide for: (1 ) New seating area for passengers waiting for their flight and increased circulation space, (2 ) 20% increase in restaurant seating and space including dedicated family zones in the restaurant, (3 ) Dedicated work zones with power outlets for charging phones and smart tablets, (4 ) New Floors, ceilings and lighting throughout Departures, (5 ) New kids play area, (6 ) Increased circulation space for passengers and (7 ) Upgrades to the bar area in departures.
Phase two of the project, which will commence towards the end of 2019, will see the construction of new covered walkways from the departures hall to the ramp.
These upgrades will transform the departures area and provide passengers with an enhanced experience as they journey through the airport and provide flexibility to allow us to provide increased capacity as we continue to grow passenger numbers
In 2018 - 771,619 passengers used the airport which represented an increase of 3% on the previous record year in 2017.The airport now serves 24 International destinations and is served by three of Europe’s major International airlines, Aer Lingus, Flybe and Ryanair.
Between 2017 and 2021 the airport will complete an investment programme of over €15m aimed at enhancing the facilities for passengers using the airport.
