Award-Winning 'Remember to Breathe' play At The Linenhall

The critically acclaimed and award-winning play Remember to Breathe comes to the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Monday February 18 at 8pm.

In a pool in post-earthquake New Zealand, recent emigrant Maeve is learning to swim. Self-professed ‘swimaholic’ coach Doreen eggs her on. But as she struggles to stay afloat, Maeve must do battle with the water and an unresolved dilemma with her much-loved father back home.

Mixing serious themes with warm humour, Remember to Breathe is a deeply moving play about moving home and moving on. Written and directed by Orla Murphy, Remember to Breathe won the Lustrum Award at Edinburgh Fringe and was nominated for Fishamble Best New Play Award and the BBC International Playwriting Award. It sold out its Tiger Dublin Fringe run, as well as completing a successful run at Edinburgh 2016 and a brief national tour.

Performed by Liz Fitzgibbon, Raymond Keane and Julie Sharkey. Running time: 70 minutes, no interval.

“Intelligent, captivating and deeply moving.” - Irish Examiner

“This fine, understated play... Orla Murphy draws on her own emigrant experiences in New Zealand, and it rises above familiar tales of recent Irish exile through the subtle clarity of the writing and the wonderfully judged performances.” - Seona Mac Reamoinn, Irish Time
