Network Ireland Mayo celebrates its 25th birthday

Network Ireland Mayo is celebrating 25 years since it was founded in August 1994 in the Imperial Hotel Castlebar. To mark this milestone, an event will be held on Thursday, January 24 in Breaffy House Resort with light refreshments at 7.15pm and proceedings starting at 8pm – everyone is welcome.

Geraldine O’Hara-Farragher, Mairead Bourke and Anita Hanley founded the network and Geraldine and Mairead went on to take the role of President over the following years. While network took a break for four years, two Network Galway members, Anne Hession and Alison Herbert (Network Ireland President ) put an advert in the local papers and invited businesswomen to attend an information event to rekindle the Network in Mayo. At the meeting was Maria Moran from Westport who took the President’s role and it has since grown from strength to strength.

Current President, Anne Conlon, said: "It’s a remarkable story - the history of our network. While it has changed over the years, the values remain the same – to support businesswomen either as employees or employers.

"Last year saw the network at its strongest with the highest level of membership, events and social media engagements in the past 25 years, it is becoming an organisation that women want to be a member of."

Conlon went on to say the membership is made up of employees, small SMEs, large SMEs and sole traders. "We are a progressive, dynamic organisation supporting the professional and personal development of women. This year’s theme is Learning, Supporting and Archiving Together and our events will include workshops in 'Sales and LinkedIn'. The network members support each other and are supported by the Network Mayo Branch. Some of our members work on their own or in offices with not a lot of female company so coming together bridges the gap from isolation."
