In Meet the Maker this week, we meet Olive Gavin from The Hair Botique in Castlebar
What is your name and job?
My name is Olive Gavin and I am the owner of The Hair Boutique on Chapel Street in Castlebar.
How long have you been in the business?
I’ve been in hairdressing for 15 years.
What made you choose this field?
When I was younger it was something I always wanted to do. I loved playing with my dolls’ hair as a child. I love creating styles for clients that make them feel great.
What advice would you give someone starting out in the business?
It’s hard as you have to start at the bottom but do the training in a salon if you can, as you’ll get a proper feel for the business you’re choosing.
Favourite product in hair/beauty at the moment?
Right now I’m absolutely loving the Olaplex treatment as it prevents damage and repairs the hair.
Best part of the business?
The clients of course! Meeting them and chatting with them makes the day fun and interesting. Knowing that I’ve made them feel good is a great feeling.
Greatest ambition in the business?
To grow and expand and also to be known as a great salon for hair extensions.
Greatest ambition outside the business?
To win the lotto.
Favourite saying or motto?
"If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door."
