Mr. Michael Ring T.D., Minister for Rural and Community Development, has confirmed that 132 small scale local community initiatives in Mayo have been supported under the 2018 Community Enhancement Programme. The CEP provides capital grants to community groups and is targeted towards enhancing facilities in disadvantaged communities.
Last year, Minister Ring allocated €403,732 to Mayo LCDC to support small scale local initiatives. The Minister is today announcing the identity of the projects supported under 2018 CEP. Nationally, over 3,000 such projects have been supported through the Programme for total funding of €12.5 million.
The full list of 132 Mayo based projects supported can be found in the attached excel spreadsheet and at: https://drcd.gov.ie/wp-content/uploads/CEP-Jan-2019-Project-approvals.pdf.
Minister Ring said: "Having allocated over €400,000 for Mayo under the Community Enhancement Programme in 2018, I am delighted to be able to announce the 132 local projects which have benefitted from the Programme.
"This investment shows that a relatively small amount of money can go a long way. Communities right throughout Mayo will benefit from this investment.
"A range of organisations were approved for funding; these included groups supporting the community, groups providing facilities for sporting activities, health organisations, youth groups and TidyTowns groups. Projects funded included energy efficient upgrades, developing community gardens, provision of defibrillators, CCTV, and sports and IT equipment.
"The CEP provides vital funding to support important work by communities and I am delighted that my Department can help in this way.”
The application process was administered by Mayo LCDC and involved an open application process.
