Castlebar host table toppers tomorrow night

Castlebar will play their last game of the year tomorrow evening when they host league leaders Connemara in round nine of division 1A of the Connacht Junior League.

The county town men currently sit in fourth place in the table on 21 points with three wins from their eight games so far and they head into this clash on the back of an impressive victory last time around.

Castlebar came home from the Tribes county with a bonus point victory over Galwegians last weekend - running out 34-5 winners thanks to a brace of tries from both Sean Tonra and Luke Staunton, with both Ronan Irwin and Matthew Staunton also touching down for tries in the victory.

They will face a much more serious test this weekend when league leaders Connemara come to town, the Gaeltacht men have lost just once in the league this season, winning seven from eight so far and last weekend they picked up their second win thanks to a 27-5 win at home to a Monivea side who currently sit in third place in the standings.

The two teams met as recently as two weeks ago in a re-fixed league game with Connemara running out 25-7 winners over the county town men.

Westport will travel to Sligo to on Sunday afternoon and will be confident of picking up their fourth win of the season when they come calling to the Yeats County men.

Last weekend saw Westport slump to their fifth league defeat of the season when they lost 29-7 at home to a Creggs side who are currently sitting in second place in the table, while Wesport are at the moment occupying sixth place in the table on 14 points.

There opponents this weekend are rooted to the bottom of the table on nine points, after picking up just one league win so far this season and last weekend they were beaten 19-12 at home by the mid-landers from Buccaneers.

When these sides me in round two back in September, Westport ran out 14-10 winners.

In division 1B of the Connacht Junior League on Sunday, Ballinrobe will travel to Ballinasloe looking to pick up their fourth win of the season in the league. The south Mayo men currently sit in fifth place in the table and will be looking to move up the rankings when they take on a side who sit two places behind them in the standings.

In their last outing Ballinrobe pulled off a two-point win over Loughrea at home and when both of these sides met earlier in the season they ran out 12-0 winners at home.
