This Sunday's finale to the season's soccer action on a local level promises to be an encounter to remember.
Ballina Town are heading into the final looking to seal a league cup double and could have been going for a treble if they had not been beaten by Manulla in the league cup final back in August.
Celtic finished third in the Super League standings at the end of that competition, but they are heading into this game on the back of a 5-4 win over the northern opponents in the FAI Junior Cup a few weeks ago. They also go into Sunday's game on the back of a 4-3 win over Claremorris in that competition last weekend. In their league meetings this season Ballina Town have held the upper hand, winning 6-2 at home in June to follow up a 1-1 draw in Celtic Park back in April.
Ballina booked their place in Sunday's final with a 5-2 semi-final win over Westport United, thanks to two goal hauls from Dylan McKee and Dylan Edwards and one goal from Mark Birrane. Ballina Town had a bye in round one and beat Ballyglass 4-2 in the last eight, before their semi-final victory over Westport United.
Celtic were put to the pin of their collars by Claremorris in their semi-final with penalties needed to separate them from Claremorris after their final four clash ended 4-4. The hoops' have so far seen off Straide and Foxford United 11-1 and Glenhest Rovers 3-1 along with their semi-final win over Claremorris to get to this stage.
Celtic will have to be on their toes at the back with the likes of Benny Lavelle and Dylan Edwards posing serious goal threats for the league winners. Lavelle has hit the net 30 times in all competitions in Mayo this season with Edwards chipping in 19 - as if those two were enough of a threat to Ballina Town's next two highest scorers, Jamie Cawley and Dylan McKee have also bagged 14 and 13 goals respectively this season in the county.
For Celtic, Jason Hunt has been their main goal-getter this season with 19 goals so far in Mayo and Ger O'Boyle not far behind with 17 goals to his name, while Liam Flatley will also be a serious goal threat for Celtic with a dozen goals under his belt this season already.
