The Sodexo cleaning team at Bellanaboy Bridge Gas Terminal took home its first ever medal from the recent 2018 Sodexo Salon Culinaire, the annual staff culinary competition run by the food and facilities management company for its 3,700 chef and non-chef staff in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Team members submitted entries for all five hotly contested Baking Classes - Cupcakes, Gateau/Filled Sponges, Traybakes, Gluten-free Baking and Decorative Novelty Cakes with Noreen Hegarty from Erris scooping a bronze medal in the Cupcakes Class for her festival themed entries celebrating Easter, Summer and Halloween.
Unlike the TV bake-offs, all the entries must be made in advance and they were brought to the Salon at Cliff at Lyons in Kildare by Bernie McManamon, Sodexo’s general services manager at Bellanaboy and fellow team member Pauline Ruddy.
Bernie accepted the medal on Noreen’s behalf and said “It was our team’s first time to enter all the Baking Classes in the Salon Culinaire and our first time to bring home a medal. It was a big team effort and we were delighted with Noreen’s bronze medal win. It was a great day of learning about new food trends and initiatives, and we got to see all the other entries and the standard is pretty high so it’s definitely spurred us on for next year.”
