RTÉ Concert Orchestra scooped the special award for Outstanding Achievement 2018 at the IMRO Awards in Dublin last week and this talented group of musicians is due to take to the stage of Knock Basilica on Saturday November 3 at 7.30pm for a special performance of Handel’s Messiah.
This concert follows last November's unprecedented sell-out performance by the orchestra of the same work, when it was presented in Knock for the very first time.
RTE Concert Orchestra has been introducing orchestral music to new audiences since 1948 and has built a connection with the public, that saw it named as the World’s Favourite Orchestra in an international poll in 2015.
The concert will be conducted by Proinnsías Ó Duinn, considered as one of the best conductors in the world of Handel’s Messiah, who says he is "very much looking forward to a return to Mayo with the national orchestra to where the audience came out in force to lift the roof off the Basilica last year in their approval."
This concert will also feature a 180-strong choir comprising of members of Our Lady’s Choral Society, Dublin and two Mayo based choirs, Cór Mhaigh Eo and the Mayo Chamber Choir.
They will be joined by a world class line-up of soloists, Soprano Anna Devin, Alto Kate Allen, Tenor Peter O’Reilly and Bass John Molloy.
It promises to be a sensational evening of delightful and thrilling music making and not one to be missed under any circumstances!
