A 25-year-old Polish man who was observed swerving over a continuous white line in Derreens, Killala, was convicted and fined at Ballina District Court this week.
Garda Shaun Walsh who was driving along the Killala Road on Friday June 27 2008, observed Mateusz Ryebaki, 18 Old Mill Stone, Killala, driving a silver Renault Laguna in the opposite direction and swerve over a continuous white line. Ryebaki was stopped and Garda Walsh noted there was no tax on the vehicle.
Solicitor John Gordon said that the defendant crossed the line as a black jeep had pulled out in front of him and rather than to collide with it he tried to overtake, however the jeep suddenly accelerated and the defendant then stayed behind it. The arrears in tax have been paid.
Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined the defendant €500.
