Ballina man hurled abuse at gardaí

A 20-year old man who was verbally abusive to gardaí, after they stopped and searched his car for weapons, was before Ballina District Court this week.

The vehicle of Robert Cording, 19 Oaklawns, Ballina, was stopped and searched by gardaí on Thursday July 17 2008 at 2.35am on Humber Street, Ballina. During the procedure, Cording called gardaí “wa**ers” and “fu**ing idiots” and referred to one of the garda present as a “Northern ba**ard”.

Solicitor, Lynda Lenehan, said that the defendant’s behaviour was unacceptable and that he wished to apologise for his actions. Cording, who is from Dublin but living with his parents in Ballina was given the opportunity by Judge Mary Devins to undergo a community service assessment report where if deemed suitable the defendant would undertake 100 hours community service in lieu of three months in prison.
