Court appearance for Killala man who was stumbling onto road while drunk

A 29-year-old Killala man who was intoxicated in a public area and failed to comply with a garda direction was convicted and fined €500 at Ballina District Court this week.

Sergeant James Murphy responded to a call that there was an argument taking place on the Crossmolina Bridge on Sunday July 27 last year.

On arrival at the scene Sgt Murphy observed two men and one woman in an altercation. One of the men, Declan Knox, 21 Woodview Court, Killala, was intoxicated and unsteady on his feet and was stumbling onto the road in front of traffic.

Sgt Murphy was informed that all three were getting a taxi, however Knox returned to the area and refused to leave the scene which resulted in his arrest.

Solicitor Michael Bohan said that the married father of one, who is employed in Cork had given a full and frank apology to Sgt Murphy for his actions.

Knox who has two previous public order convictions was convicted and fined €400 by Judge Mary Devins for refusing to leave the area and €100 for being drunk in a public place.
