Mayo searches for a Rose of Tralee

Mayo has begun its search for entrants to represent the county in the Rose of Tralee International Festival which celebrates 50 years in 2009.

Organisers are looking for a woman between the age of 18 and 28 with an indefinable quality that captures a modern woman in terms of her aspirations, ambitions, intellect, social responsibility, and Irish heritage.

The reigning Rose of Tralee, Aoife Kelly, said: “The whole experience from becoming the Tipperary Rose through the Irish regional final to the Rose tour and the Rose of Tralee Festival itself was amazing. I would encourage anyone who is eligible to take part in 2009 as you will make lots of memories and have the time of your life.”

Mary Jennings, Mayo Rose committee, has advised anyone interested in becoming the next Mayo Rose to contact the TF Royal Hotel on 094 902 3111 or [email protected]. All applications must be in by Monday April 13 2009.

The Mayo Rose will be chosen at a selection event in the Royal Theatre and Event Centre Castlebar and she will go forward to the Irish regional finals at the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel on the weekend of May 30 to June 1 2009.

The 2009 Rose of Tralee International Festival will take place from August 21 to 26 and as it is a special celebration of 50 years, anyone who has been involved over the years is encouraged to make the journey to Tralee for a truly memorable event.
