This Sunday September 16 will see the conclusion of Beyond the Visible a exhibition of work by German artist Ralph Gelbert at Custom House Studios gallery in Westport.
Gelbert is a regular visitor to Westport and Ireland and his work explores various landscapes around the world. Though his large format paintings have titles like ‘Rheinaue’, ‘Irische Landschaft’, ‘Savanne’, ‘Shelley Point’ and ‘Wasserspiegelung’, the passionate traveller is not offering up exact reproductions of topographies but rather remembrances, convergences; echoes of previously seen expanses, of what flows and exudes calm; nature untamed, intoxicating and breathtaking.
