Irish Quads of Mulranny, Mayo are the Honda authorised quad dealer for Mayo. They started as an independent dealer, however one day a helicopter landed in Mulranny piloted by the head of Honda in Ireland and an hour later, on the strength of a handshake and a cup of tea, they were official Honda agents!
“What we do is straight forward” said Peter of Irish Quads. “We carry the largest stock of farm quads in the country. We carry the best of stock and we stand over everything we sell.”
Peter added: “When we open our gates in the morning we could have a customer waiting there who has driven from Kerry or Wexford and farmers are travelling from Northern Ireland too”. According to Peter: “Usually word of mouth, or our website www.quads.ie , has brought them to Mayo — they know that we carry only lightly used quads, and have plenty of them. Some, knowing how we work, even buy ‘sight unseen’ over the telephone, and we deliver, with a long warranty. Farmers want good value and a trouble-free machine that lasts and that keeps its value — so we stick with Honda, the best selling quads in the world.”
The quad is now seen to be a useful tool on the farm. Herding, spreading, trailer work, topping, spraying can all be done quickly and without the tractor. They are cheap to run, and are built for hard working conditions. But there can be drawbacks: “One customer in Wicklow complained that ‘since the quad came herself is away to the shop on her new motor and I’m still walking for the cows’ ”
