Ballyheane Race Night

A race night will be held in the Punchbowl, Ballyheane, on Saturday March 28 at 9pm. Proceeds are in aid of the Ballyheane Buttercups community crèche.

All are welcome for a night of music and races hosted by the Blues Brothers. Thoroughbreds can be purchased for €20 each. Just name your horse and jockey and bet on it to win.

Soccer camp

Aviva Soccer Sisters Easter Camps are open to girls aged between seven and 11 and Charlestown has been selected as one out of 30 camps nationwide, with the camp to take place in the CBD Complex from Monday April 6 to Thursday April 9 from 10am to 1pm daily.

Orthodox Easter celebrations

The Orthodox Holy Week will start on Monday April 13. The Easter liturgy services will be from Wednesday April 15 onwards every evening at 6.30pm in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar and on Saturday April 18 at 11pm a vigil for Easter will be celebrated.

Birdwatch outing

The Mayo branch of Birdwatch Ireland are holding an outing to Killala Bay on Saturday March 28 to see waders and wildfowl of the area.

Archaeological society

The inaugural meeting of the Achill Historical and Archaeological Society will take place on Friday April 3 at 8pm in the Achill Archaeology Centre, Dooagh. Achill Island. The guest speaker will be John McNamara. All are welcome and membership forms for the new society will be available on the night.

Tea day

The residents of Clare Court (Ballyhaunis Social Housing Ltd ) in support of Western Alzheimers would love you to support their tea day on Friday April 3 from 11am to 1pm in the Communal House, Clarecourt, Clare Road, Ballyhaunis.

Fleadh closing date

Competitors wishing to take part in the Mayo Fleadh are reminded that the closing date for entries is Friday April 3, with Fleadh Cheoil Mhaigh Eo taking place in Ballycastle on the weekend of May 9 and 10.

Competitors are asked to ensure that their entries contain all the relevant information: name, date of birth, address, comhaltas branch, the competition for which they are entering, and the age group. All entries must be accompanied by the relevant entry fee.

The fees are: juniors — €2 for CCE members and €4 for non members. Seniors: €4 for CCÉ members and €8 for non members. Late entries will not be accepted. Entries should be sent to: Teresa McAndrew, Rathkip, Ballina.

Belmullet rugby

Having run two very successful open days in Belmullet last December, Connacht Rugby is organising another two open days on Saturday March 28 and Saturday April 4.

Both days will be held at Erris United’s (Iorras Aontaithe ) grounds beginning at 11am and finishing at 12.30pm. Boys and girls between the ages of seven and 14 are invited to attend the fun filled sessions. Parents are also welcome to watch and get involved in the sessions if they wish.

Radio network

The Mayo Radio Experimenters Network will meet on the first Wednesday each month at the Welcome Inn Hotel Castlebar at 9.30pm and would welcome anyone with an interest in radio or related topics to go along.
