Preparations are currently well underway for the annual Mayo Roscommon Hospice Memorial Walk which takes place across the region this coming Sunday September 9. The walk now in its fifth year, will see hundreds of people in five different locations across Mayo and Roscommon, participating in a 5km leisurely stroll in memory of a friend, a family member or a loved one.
Martina Jennings, CEO of Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation stated: "We have the most wonderful feedback from participants every year after the walk takes place to say how special they find the event.
"It really allows people to take a moment out of their busy lives to reflect, remember and celebrate the memory of their loved ones in such a respectful way. As we enter into the second half of 2018 it is our pleasure to let you know we have made huge progress with both our hospice buildings. The Mayo Hospice is well under construction and we are on target to open in April 2019. Once complete, we will be starting the build of the Roscommon Hospice with both Hospices fully operational by 2021.
"With the projected costs for the capital development project of the Hospice Buildings coming in at €15 million, this is by no means an easy task. But Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation is confident that with the continued help of their supporters, these projects will be completed on budget and on target.
"We are so grateful for the incredible support and to each and every person that had donated or volunteered their time in some way over the last 25 years, especially to our local support groups and all our volunteers” said Martina. “Without you, Mayo Roscommon Hospice would not be where it is today and we are so thankful for your involvement," concluded Jennings.
Walk locations are: Ballaghaderreen, Belmullet, Castlerea, Claremorris and Westport and is open to all levels of fitness. Each event starts with a special blessing where a moment is taken to offer up thoughts and prayer for loved ones who are being remembered in a special way on the day. Refreshments are served at the finish.
The cost of participation is €15 per person (children under 16 go free ). You can register today for the walk by calling the Hospice office on (094 ) 9388666 or through any of the Hospice shops across the region. All funds raised from this event go directly towards the cost of the Hospice Building Fund so please support.
