Just opened in the Linenhall Arts Centre is Showroom, an intriguing installation by Aideen Farrell. Aideen is a Dublin-based installation artist whose practice explores the systems and physical structures that shape, represent, and impose order on our built environments.
She uses a combination of found materials, wood, metal, wire and plaster casts to construct navigable contingent forms that break up and react to the existing spaces. Her work weighs the polished, fixed designs of architecture and urban planning against underlying conditions of precarity and collapse.
Aideen is a recent graduate of the National College of Art and Design with a degree in fine art painting and visual culture, and is a member of Ormond Studios in Dublin. In 2017 she was awarded the Fire Station Graduate Sculpture Award, was highly commended in the undergraduate awards for her degree show work, and exhibited as part of the Catalyst Arts Centre Graduate Show, Symbiosis. The exhibition runs until Saturday, September 1.
RehabCare Exhibition - Blàthanna
Blàthanna is a beautifully colourful and celebratory exhibition of paintings by service users of RehabCare in Mayo showcasing recent work in acrylic on canvas. “The Art Group comprises artists who have been painting and exhibiting for several years,” explained art tutor Emma Gallagher. “This summer’s exhibition is entitled Blàthanna and displays the wonder, energy and beauty of our floral world.” The exhibition runs until Saturday August 11.
Cabinet of Wonders #6
The Cabinet of Wonders is an ongoing curated visual art project presented in the foyer of the Linenhall “to engage, intrigue, surprise and delight”. Cabinet of Wonders #6 features works by a selection of contemporary visual artists: Declan Byrne, Michelle Colfer, Fiona Harrington, Dympna Heanue, Rebecca Lyons, Lisa Mc Lurg, Noel Molloy, Jane Queally, Fiona Reilly and Ian Wieczorek.
