The organisers of the annual Mayo GOAL golf classic, which takes place in Westport Golf Club on Thursday April 16, are aiming to make this year’s event the biggest ever.
“Last year’s event in Westport Golf Club was a huge success,” says Chairman Chris Farrell, “and considering it is the poorest and most vulnerable people around the world who are hardest hit during an economic downturn we’re hoping that Mayo’s golfers will do their bit to support them again. We’re hoping that this year’s Mayo GOAL golf classic will be the biggest one so far.”
By supporting this event golfers will help raise much needed funds for GOAL’s humanitarian programmes in the developing world, where the agency currently operates across 10 countries providing disaster relief and development programmes.
GOAL has responded to nearly every major natural and man-made disaster since 1977, has operated development programmes in over 50 countries and, today, spends millions every year implementing relief and development programmes to help the most vulnerable in the world.
GOAL is proud of the fact that in its 32 years in existence it has kept its administration costs exceptionally low, ensuring that funds raised have the maximum possible impact on the lives of those in greatest need.
Team entries for the golf classic cost €180 while tees and greens can also be sponsored for €80. It is hoped that over 40 teams will take part on the day. The prizes for the competition have been kindly sponsored by Pat Hughes of Carraig Donn.
