For the second time Castlebar man Johnny Oosten has taken to his bike and made his way from north to south along the Wild Atlantic Way to raise money for Pieta House, suicide and self harm centre.
Oosten, along with Trish Moran, Caolan Gavin, Tommie Moran and JJ Costello started their 14-day odyssey on Monday June 18 in Derry city and covered between 100km and 140km a day on their way to the finishing line in Kinsale.
Speaking about the adventure Oosten stated: "Who could have planned for better weather? On June 18 a windy start from Derry to Letterkenny and the next day it was a wet and windy cycle from Letterkenny to Bunbeg, but from there on in it was glorious sunshine all the way to the finishing line in Kinsale.
"When the sun shines there is no better place in the world to be than in Ireland taking in the views such as the Cliffs of Moher, Spanish Point, Dingle, the Ring Of Kerry, Connor's Pass , Downpatrick Head to mention a few stops and not forgetting a dip in the sea in Leenane.
"Meeting the locals at each stage, offering us fluids as we were cycling in hot conditions inviting us into their homes for a cuppa, we were glad to take up the offer on a few occasions as a rest was required as well.
"The important point was to create awareness about the services of Pieta House and raise funding and I would like to say a special thank you to all who supported us on this challenge.
"I promise you it is the journey of a lifetime, put it in your diary and take in a stage or two, or even the entire journey. I have completed the journey twice. Let the next adventure begin, said Oosten"
