200 events across 14 days – as GIAF starts on Monday

This year’s Galway International Arts Festival is just around the corner and kicks off next Monday July 16.

For 14 days and nights audiences can look forward to over 200 events across 32 venues and an exciting Irish and international programme to suit all tastes. Over 600 artists will descend on Galway for what organisers say is their biggest and most ambitious festival to date.

The theatre programme includes six world premieres and five Irish premieres and in what promises to be one of the Irish theatrical highlights of 2018, Paul Muldoon’s Incantata is reimagined for the stage and will star one of Ireland’s leading actors, Stanley Townsend. There are also world premieres from Druid and an exciting international theatre programme to choose from.

With its biggest music line-up yet in the Heineken Big Top (co-produced with the Róisín Dubh ), the 10 headline acts include Gavin James, Caribou, Madness, The Stunning, The Flaming Lips and many more.

The street and spectacle programme sees the return of the hugely popular The People Build, which wowed audiences last year. In an exciting new development, Eyre Square will see the addition of the new Festival Garden. Be sure to visit where you’ll also find the luminarium, which is guaranteed to be a big hit with children and families.

To view the full programme see www.giaf.ie or call (091 ) 566577. In-person bookings can be made at the box office in the Galway Tourist Office on Forster Street. The festival runs from Monday July 16 to Sunday July 29.
