Last year Mayo hosted the first ever Mayo Pride, which proved a huge success.
With no idea what to expect, the organising committee expressed delight at the turnout, which was estimated to have reached over 300. This year the committee are once again planning to host a Pride festival in Castlebar, to take place on Friday July 20 and Saturday July 21.
Chairperson of the organising committee Niamh-Marie Kilbane stated: "This year we’re hoping it will be bigger and better. Last year we received a really positive response. The town really got behind us, we had so much support which we were so grateful for.
"It was evident from the crowds and businesses sporting pride colours that people had really embraced the whole Pride experience and the expectation is that this year will be just as vibrant and exciting as the last."
The Pride committee is encouraging people to join the parade and the festivities afterwards. The parade is on Saturday July 21 starting at 1.30pm at The Mall with activities to follow. Friday July 20 a comedy night will be staged in The Ivy Tower starting at 9pm, while Saturday’s entertainment is a variety show with MC Katherine Lynch, also in the Ivy Tower at 8pm.
