Man released without charge following arrest in connection with death of Joseph Deacy

The man in his 20s who had been detained at Claremorris Garda Station in relation to the death of Joseph Deacy in Swinford on August 12,  2017 was released without charge last night. A file will be prepared for The Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardaí investigating the death of Joseph Deacy ,yesterday morning, Tuesday, May 29 arrested a man in his 20s in connection with this investigation.

The man was arrested in Mayo and was detained at Claremorris Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4- Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Joseph Deacy of St. Albans in England, was discovered outside a house at Gortnasillagh, Swinford with apparent head injuries.

The alarm was raised by a passer-by at approximately 6am, Gardaí and Emergency Services attended the scene. The man was taken by ambulance to Mayo University Hospital and later removed to Beaumont Hospital where he was pronounced dead on Sunday evening, August 13, 2017.

A post-mortem examination was carried out by the State Pathologist Professor Marie Cassidy and the death is being treated as a homicide.
