Ballinrobe will be painting the town red and green this summer for its annual festival. This year the festival promises to be bigger and better, welcoming the Big Red Barn as the main venue which will host headline act Hermitage Green, and firm favourites Bagatelle.
Welcoming people to Rock on the Robe this July 27 to 29, the festival committee is busy putting together a feast of live entertainment and activities for families, the young and not so young, and those from far and wide.
The headline act, Limerick-based band Hermitage Green are an Irish folk rock band who have made a large impact in a short period of time, touring internationally to sold out rooms across Ireland, the UK, Middle East, Australia, and the US. And everyone’s favourite Bagatelle will get crowds singing along to kick off the festival on Friday, July 27.
“It’s absolutely fantastic to get bands of this calibre for this year’s festival. We want to put Ballinrobe on the map as a music haven for big bands, and indeed local talent, and what better way to kick that off than with a festival bursting with great bands such as Hermitage Green,” said festival chairperson Monica Horan.
The Limerick band are well known on the Irish live circuit performing in Dublin’s Whelan’s this month and have amassed close to one million views on their cover of Florence and the Machine’s ‘Cosmic Love’ on YouTube and climbed the charts with originals ‘Quicksand’ and ‘Not Your Lover’.
The 800 capacity Big Red Barn is sure to be rocking all weekend on Abbey Street with Bagatelle performing well known songs such as ‘Leeson Street Lady’ and ‘Summer in Dublin’.
The annual Queen of the Lakes event will take place in the barn on Sunday, July 29, while an acoustic session of homegrown talent including Kevin May, Con Murphy, and Martin Farragher will take place at ‘Live at the Library’ in Ballinrobe Library.
A host of other events include a children's GAA tournament to contest the Christy O’Loughlin Cup, children’s entertainment at the Big Red Barn, and many more exciting events to be confirmed.
The official festival launch will take place on Friday, May 25, where details of fundraising events, including a ‘Mr and Mrs’ event on Friday, June 8, will be announced along with ticket prices for above events.
