Mayo Volleyball Club finished the weekend with mixed emotions as they played two of Dublin's best clubs in consecutive days, Dalkey and Trinity College Dublin.
After Dalkey inflicted on Mayo their first defeat last October the Westerners exacted revenge on the south Dublin outfit with a convincing 3-1 victory.
A confident Dalkey drew first blood winning the first set 25-21 but it did not take the home side long to find their rhythm. Great defensive work by Mikal O'Boyle and clinical accuracy in Edel Nolan's hitting led Mayo to a 25-20 win.
The third set finished just as the second did with another 25-20 win for the westerners, Mayo finished the job soon after winning the final set 25-19 and the match 3-1.
Sunday's trip to Trinity however provided the same result but the spoils went to Trinity who have won all games this season. An early tussle ensued where Mayo and Trinity were tied in sets 1-1 which was undone by a tenacious TCD. Once they won the third set they never looked back, winning the match 3-1.
Newly promoted Mayo can take solace that out of only three sets Trinity conceded all season two were inflicted by Mayo.
