Feeney selected to run for Fianna Fáil

Fianna Fáil has confirmed the selection of Mickey Feeney on the party ticket to contest the Mayo County Council election in June.

Castlebar born Feeney comes from a well know local family and has been active in the sporting and civic life of the town from a young age.

He is one of a family of eight of musical legend Jimmy Feeney and the late Una Feeney (Egan ).

Having worked for a number of years with DH Burke supermarkets, Feeney joined Canada Life in 1988. He is now a financial consultant with the company.

A keen sportsman, Feeney has won an All-Ireland medal with the Mayo under 21 team of 1983 under the captaincy of Eddie Gibbons of Tourmakeady. He has also played club football with Castlebar Mitchels over a span of 25 years. He has won four county senior titles with Castlebar. Currently he devotes his talent to training the Mitchels under age teams. He also played with the Mayo Senior team throughout the eighties. Feeney was an accomplished soccer player representing Castlebar Celtic, Mayo and Connacht at youth and senior level.

Feeney has always been a community minded person. He was a founder member of McCormack Court Residents’ Association and served as chairman of Knockaphunta Residents’ Association for several years. He is also a member of Castlebar Lions Club and Castlebar Chamber of Commerce.
