Westmeath Ladies produced a gritty display, but still lost 0-13 to 0-7 against Galway on Sunday in Division 1 of the Lidl National League.
A strong finish to the first half ensured Galway carved out a victory to progress to the semi-finals of the competition.
Galway manager Stephen Glennon was very impressed with Westmeath’s performance.
“We were delighted to get over today,” Glennon remarked. “You knew Westmeath were tough. They’ve been building. They’re a decent outfit and I was just trying to get into the space today where we could just get over the line and hopefully put ourselves into a position to claim a semi-final spot.
“I have to credit Westmeath, I was impressed with them. Maybe just towards the end it came down to we wanted it a little bit more because we had the prize of a semi-final at stake, but hats off to Westmeath today. I thought they were very good.”
