The students and staff of Athlone VTOS recently raised much needed funds by way of a quiz for Pieta House.
First year students approached local businesses, who kindly agreed to sponsor them and then generously donated prizes for the raffle during the quiz. In total, the sum of €561 was raised.
Mr Gerard Tierney met with the students this week and was able to tell them of the fantastic free service on offer at Pieta House for those who may be feeling suicidal or who have a family member in crisis. Pieta House has qualified staff who are able to help those feeling suicidal within 48 hours - which is a great service to have in the Athlone area.
Kelly Power, a first year business student, presented the cheque to Mr Tierney on behalf of all the VTOS first year communications groups.
The number for Pieta House is 1800 247 247 for those feeling suicidal.
Athlone VTOS offers three areas of study: business administration, software development and art/craft/design, but all students must study QQI level 5 communications.
