New 1.6 i-DTEC diesel added to Civic range

Honda has added the comprehensively revised 1.6 i-DTEC diesel engine to their new Civic line-up. It was shown to journalists last September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Honda said that the new Civic Diesel will sit beside the two all-new VTEC turbo petrol engines that have been specifically to deliver a powerful, engaging and efficient driving experience, giving a choice to all driving requirements. The Civic range starts from €23,750.

The new 1.6 litre diesel, which is built at Honda’s UK manufacturing plant in Swindon, attempts to strike a balance between performance and efficiency. Mechanical friction has been reduced compared to the old model, improving fuel efficiency and giving a more responsive drive.

It produces 118 BHP at 4,000 rpm and 300 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm, propelling the Civic from 0-100 km/h in 9.8 seconds. The 118 bhp unit also gives fuel economy returns of 3.5 litres per 100 kms (or 81mpg ) in ideal combined cycle conditions.

It is currently married to with a six-speed manual gearbox, but rumour has it that a nine-speed automatic transmission could be an option for the Civic diesel from this summer.
