Minister for Education to visit Athlone

Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton is to visit local schools in Athlone on February 9.

The news was confirmed this week by Minister of State for the Office of Public Works and Flood Relief, Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran.

“I have been looking for the minster to come to visit a number of schools in the area,” Minister Moran said on Tuesday this week. “He is calling to Baylin National School, he is going to open the new extension to the school in Mount Temple for me, he is also calling to Coosan National School for a photoshoot and to look at the progress of the development there, and then he is going to the Marist College, who have been seeking that meeting with him.

“If the minister has time outside of this schedule he will also call to Athlone Community College, just to look at the development and say hello. The whole purpose of the visit is to track the progress made with the development of the schools in the area and also to see where we can do more. The visit is good news for the schools in the Longford-Westmeath constituency, who have done well under this government.”

Minister Moran said the development of Coosan National School has been talked about for years and he welcomed that construction has now commenced.

“I gave an election promise to the people of that area, and I am working hard to deliver on it in a timely fashion, so I am delighted that the minister is coming,” he concluded.
