Coosan National School fundraising launch

Coosan National School has announced this year’s fundraising plans to raise money to kit out the new school.

After 18 years of hard work by successive boards of management and the local community, the school has finally been given the all clear to proceed with the construction of a new building on the grounds of the existing one. The contractor, Sammon Construction, is presently working on the second story of the building.

The new building will have 16 mainstream classrooms, seven resource rooms and will also incorporate a special education unit consisting of two classes for children with disabilities ranging from mild to severe.

While this news is exciting for all involved, the funding being provided by The Department of Education and Skills will only cover the basic school build. The board of management of the school will be required to fund the equipping of the new school, which includes IT fit out, laptops, iPads, PE equipment, notice boards, shelving units, storage equipment, special education units and more. It is estimated that this will cost in the region of €125,000.

The school and its parents are busy organising a number of events and initiatives to raise the much needed funds. On March 1 at 8pm there is an evening of cooking with Catherine Fulvio in the Radisson Hotel. Tickets cost €20 and there will be craft and artisan stalls as well as a fantastic raffle on the night. Tickets are available from the school office, Vanilla Garden, Cunninghams Pharmacy and online at www.coosanschoolfundraising.ie

On March 25, there is a 5k run with Robbie Henshaw, and a golf classic is being planned for May.

Throughout the year, people can contribute by way of ‘Buy a Block’. Parents, current and past pupils and the local community are being encouraged to buy a block and have their name on the ‘block way’ in the school.
