Monksland's first ever Christmas market takes place this Sunday, December 17 from 4pm to 6pm.
The market was supposed to get underway last Sunday, however, bad weather conditions led organisers to suspend the opening until this coming weekend.
Organised by the Monksland Town Team, the market will take place in the car park of SuperValu in Monksland.
As well as a fantastic market, two local children from Summerhill and Cloonakilla national schools will turn on the Christmas lights after winning the honour through a local art competition. Laura Janozs from second class in Summerhill National School won the junior category and Szymon Skoczen from fourth class in Cloonakilla National school won the senior category
The two winners will also have their winning art works turned into Christmas cards which will be for sale on the day, with a pack of 10 cards costing €5. The cards will also be on sale locally after the market finishes.
There has already been great interest locally in the market, with up to 16 stalls already reserved to display a mixture of art and crafts and food. A Slice of Life will have delicious Christmas cakes, puddings and more on offer, and the Athlone Springs Hotel are supplying complementary hot chocolate and mince pies on the day.
Charlie Finneran from Derryglad Folk Museum will be present with a lovely display of toys, Karen Webb will have a selection of her beautiful, personalised candles and family tree frames, there will be face painting, and Santa Claus will, of course, be making an appearance. This is an ideal day out for the entire family and is not to be missed.
Head on down to Monksland on Sunday, December 17 from 4pm to 6pm. You will not be disappointed.
