Juvenile arrested after knifepoint robbery

Gardaí in Athlone have arrested a juvenile male after a knifepoint robbery in Athlone on Thursday, December 7.

The man entered the kitchen of a house in the Brawny Close housing estate at 11.10pm when the occupant opened the door to let a pet out.

He then held a blade to her throat and demanded money, making off with a small sum of cash.

The following day, Gardaí arrested a juvenile male who admitted to the crime. A file is being prepared for the Garda Juvenile Diversion Programme. This programme seeks to keep young offenders out of the full criminal justice system and divert them from committing further offences.

The victim did not suffer any physical injuries but is apparently traumatised following the event.
