A Westmeath man will appear before the Circuit Court following Judge Eamon O’Brien’s decision not to accept jurisdiction in the District Court for an assault offence.
Mr Alan McManus of 1 Tormey Villas, Athlone who is currently serving a sentence, was in court and urged the judge to “get on with it today”. However, the case has been adjourned to May 21 for the serving of a book of evidence.
Garda Enda Kelly told the court that when he charged Mr McManus with the new offence, he replied “F*** off, I don’t give a shite any more”.
Mr McManus is accused of assault causing harm to a man on January 10. He is also charged with possession of a blade which was sharply pointed.
