Athlone Castle is delighted to announce a free star and solar gazing event in association with Midlands Astronomy this Saturday, December 2 from 8pm to 11pm.
Members of Midlands Astronomy will set up their high powered telescopes in the courtyard of Athlone Castle and the public will get an opportunity to view the moon, stars and solar system with assistance from the club members. This is a free event open to the public and is suitable for all ages.
Carmel Duffy, Manager of Athlone Castle says, “We are delighted to welcome the Midlands Astronomy Club back to Athlone Castle for what has now become quite a regular event. We advise everyone attending on the night to wrap up warm, enjoy a hot chocolate or coffee from our café and have a brilliant time viewing the night sky.”
Members of the Astronomy club will be on hand to answer questions and assist individuals who bring their own telescopes. The club will host a fund raising event on the night in support of ISPCC (Childline ) and any donations from the public will be greatly appreciated. Ktec telescopes will also be at the event with their scopes and they will host a meteorite display in the castle keep.
The castle gates will open just before 8pm and close at 11pm sharp, weather permitting. For further information please contact Athlone Castle on (090 ) 64 42130 or [email protected].
