Funding boost for Moate Performing Arts Club

Fine Gael Deputy for Longford-Westmeath, Peter Burke announced this week that Moate Performing Arts Club is receive a €16,500 funding boost.

The money was awarded by Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltach, Heather Humphreys under stream three of the Arts and Culture Capital Scheme.

Speaking on the announcement, Burke said he was delighted to receive word from Minister Heather Humphreys in the Dáil that Moate Performing Arts Club are to receive funding.

“Sandra and John Julian and all involved in the club do great work in Moate and the school is utilised by children and adults of all ages in Moate and the wider community of South Westmeath,” he said.

“When the Minister was in the constituency last November, I organised for her to go and visit the school and meet with some of the members of the club to see the quality of teaching and talent on display.”

The funding will go towards a new heating system, new windows and replacement of fire extinguishers.

“Stream three funding is for smaller projects in the community amounting to under €20,000,” Deputy Burke explained. “In a community based organisation like this, that money goes a long way. I am glad the Minister decided to allocate this money and undoubtedly, Sandra and all of the team made a lasting impression on her when she visited.

“The Government continues to invest in small projects such as this in rural Ireland, which help keep communities alive and sustainable. I continue to make representations and request resources into this constituency and to keep Westmeath on the Government’s agenda.”
