Athlone is mourning the death of well-known local chef Michael Talty, whose body was retrieved from the River Shannon on Sunday.
Mr Talty, a distinguished chef, was originally from Kilkee in County Clare. He was well known in his adopted home of Athlone for his hard work in the culinary industry, his caring nature, and his willingness to volunteer in the community.
After members of Athlone Sub-Aqua Club recovered a body from the Shannon on Sunday, a post-mortem examination carried out on Monday identified the deceased as Mr Talty.
The deceased is survived by his wife Geraldine, sisters Patricia, Geraldine, Claire, Carmel, Joan, Bernie, Sheila and Nuala, brothers Gerard, Paul, Stephen and Patrick, and mother-in-law Mary.
