Athlone Castle, Luan Gallery and Abbey Road Artists’ Studios are offering an exciting schedule of free events for Culture Night, 2017, on Friday, September 22.
Culture Night is a night when venues and public spaces across the island of Ireland open their doors to host a programme of free late-night entertainment, as part of an all-island celebration of arts, heritage and culture.
Luan Gallery will host free guided tours of the gallery’s latest exhibition, Jealous Wall, curated by Mullingar native Séamus McCormack, and a drawing workshop with renowned artist David Eager Maher.
Jealous Wall is Luan Gallery’s autumn 2017 exhibition. The exhibition features work by Miranda Blennerhassett, Niall de Buitléar, Janine Davidson, Adam Gibney, and David Eager Maher. The exhibition borrows its title from an architectural construction in Mullingar.
In Athlone Castle, visitors for Culture Night will be treated to rousing performances by the Athlone Pipe Band and the Army Band of the 2nd Brigade, as well as free entry to the Visitor Centre, and a recital by Poetry in the Park.
In Abbey Road Artists’ Studios, current resident artists will launch their new exhibition on the night. All are welcome to attend the wine reception and open studios from 5pm.
Engagement officer for Athlone Arts and Tourism, Daniel Hynes, said: “Culture Night is a wonderful, nationwide initiative that invites people to spend their evening exploring the best cultural offerings of their town.
“With museums, galleries and artists’ studios extending their opening hours all around the country, Culture Night is the perfect opportunity to visit sites that you may ordinarily miss out on due to your work schedule.”
All events are weather permitting and are subject to change. A full schedule of events with further details and times is available to view at www.athlonecastle.ie
