Local councillor making steady progress on road to recovery

Popular local councillor, John Dolan (FG ), is making “steady progress” in hospital, his party colleague Tom Farrell told a meeting of Westmeath County Council this week.

Cllr Dolan was struck down by a mystery illness at his home in Fardrum on July 7, where he operates a dairy farm. He was airlifted to University College Galway where he has been for the past two weeks.

“I am delighted to tell you that John is responding to treatment and is making steady progress at this time,” Cllr Farrell told the meeting held in Athlone Civic Centre.

He added that Cllr Dolan’s wife Una and family have been greatly touched by the outpouring of support from the local community since he was taken ill, including the many people who attended Masses offered and sent good wishes.

Speaking on behalf of the council executive, Cathaoirleach John Shaw (FF ) said he and his colleagues are delighted to hear Cllr Dolan is on the road to recovery, and wished him a speedy return to good health and to the council chamber.
