Bus Éireann has introduced a new and enhanced route 440 bus timetable connecting Athlone and towns and villages in Roscommon with Ireland West Airport Knock.

The new timetable, which has already come into effect means enhanced and additional daily bus services available between Athlone, Roscommon and communities along the corridor with the airport.

Four daily return services from Athlone will now operate to and from the airport originating at Athlone Bus Station, with departures as follows:

In addition, there will be up to six daily departures from Ireland West Airport to Athlone connecting towns and villages in Roscommon and Westmeath en route.

These new services will be a welcome boost and will provide enhanced access between towns in the wider catchment and Ireland West Airport. The Roscommon and Midlands regions are very important markets for the airport, with almost 20 per cent of the airport’s current passenger base coming from these regions annually, with a further 20 per cent of overseas visitors travelling to these regions when they fly in through the airport.

Joe Gilmore, managing director with Ireland West Airport, said: “We are delighted to welcome the enhanced Route 440 Bus Éireann schedule. People from Athlone and towns and villages in Roscommon will now have enhanced travel options available, with the option of using one of up to four daily services on the Athlone-Westport 440 route, and a further six return services on the Westport-Athlone route.

“This will provide great flexibility for passengers travelling on the 24 destinations to the UK and Europe offered by the airport. We thank Bus Éireann for their continued commitment to the airport and look forward to working with them to ensure the new services prove to be a huge success.”
