Childcare services in Westmeath
are to receive almost €250,000 in extra funding.
The money will be used to provide more childcare places, maintenance and building work, and outdoor play areas, and is available for immediate draw-down by providers in Westmeath.
“I am delighted to announce that local childcare services will receive almost €250,000z in extra funding,” Deputy Burke said. “The money has been well spread around on both large-scale and small-scale improvements and increases in capacity where needed.
“Some 11 different facilities throughout the county have received money, with Athlone Community Services receiving €5,000 and Loughegar Playgroup allocated €4,958. Maryna Rogoza in Lux Childcare Services in Moate will get €41,765, which a lot of fantastic work can be done with.
“I hold the provision of quality, affordable, and accessible childcare as a very high priority, ensuring local children get the very best start in life. I know from my own son that you only want the best and safest childcare for children.
“This funding will benefit children, families, and providers under our Early Years programmes, and will contribute to the development of an infrastructure that is ready to meet the radical new approach to subsidising childcare outlined in Budget 2017.”
Local Independent Minister, Kevin “Boxer” Moran, said the increase in funding comes at a key moment in Ireland’s move to accessible affordable quality childcare. He thanked Minister Zappone for providing the funding in response to the ongoing huge demand for childcare services.
“The funding announced today reflects his strong commitment to increasing the capacity and quality of Ireland’s childcare sector,” he commented.
