Garda raids lead to arrest and drug seizure

An ongoing operation by An Garda Síochána to tackle reports of anti-social behaviour led to a number of raids in Athlone on the morning of Wednesday, June 28.

One person was arrested and charged under Section 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act and a small quantity of an illegal substance was seized following the raid at Marine View, Athlone.

Two premises were searched following the planned operation in the Millbank and Marine View areas of Athlone.

Outline planning permission sought for White Gates site

Outline planning permission has been sought for the construction of 18 two-bedroomed apartments on the vacant site at the White Gates on the Ballymahon Road.

The site, which has stood empty for many years, is in a central position adjacent to the new Greenway where it crosses the Ballymahon Road.

This is the second disused site in the centre of Athlone which has been earmarked for development recently, following the application for 69 high quality homes on Lower Road near The Bower.
