It is a special time for the management, staff and all those associated with St Paul’s National School, with the school all set to celebrate 50 golden years of education.
The present day St Paul’s opened its doors to the families of St Peter’s and Paul’s Parish in Athlone in 1966. The school was founded by the Sisters of Mercy and the Mercy ethos of recognising the dignity of each human being while offering a centre of educational excellence to all continues to this day.
The school prides itself on its delivering of primary education in Athlone since 1966, and will continue to do so into the future. The climate in the school is one of trust, respect, love, care, support, and acceptance, where learning and teaching are enjoyed.
The school celebrates diversity and respect for all children. Equal opportunity to participate in all aspects of school life is afforded to every child. The school nurtures in pupils a sense of cultural identity and an appreciation of the diversity of cultures that exist in Ireland today.
A commemorative book - A Time of Little Great Things - has been published in recognition of everyone associated with St Paul’s National School since its establishment in 1966. The book aims to open a window and give an insight into life in St Paul’s through the eyes of the many children, parents, teachers, ancillary staff, and members of the boards of management who have passed through the gates during the past 50 years.
To celebrate the school’s golden jubilee there will be Mass in Ss Peter & Paul’s church on Sunday, June 25 at 12pm. This will be followed by a reception and a trip down memory lane in St Paul’s National School, Lyster Street. Everyone is welcome to attend.
