The 40th Galway International Arts Festival box office has officially opened on Forster Street, to complement the online booking facility.
Patrons can now book in person for over 200 events in 29 venues over the course of the 14-day festival running from July 17-30.
Details were announced this week of the festival’s highly anticipated Abbey Theatre production of Two Pints by Roddy Doyle which will be performed in some of Galway city and county’s most famous and iconic pubs.
This mini festival tour will also see the Abbey Theatre tour to one of the most westerly points of the Wild Atlantic Way on the Aran Islands.
Music support acts also just announced include Daithí for Jenny Greene and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra; Tracy Bruen for Lisa Hannigan; My Fellow Sponges for the New Orleans Swamp Donkeys; Anna Mullarkey for Wallis Bird; Steve Bennett for the West Cork Ukulele Orchestra; Elaine Mai for JFDR; Shuffle for The Soul Rebels and Grounds for Invasion for Overhead, The Albatross.
Comedy support acts include Páraic Breathnach who will open for Deirdre O’Kane in the Róisín Dubh on Friday, July 21.
Some of the highlights of the festival include world premieres of a new play by Conall Morrison, and a new opera by Donnacha Dennehy and Enda Walsh; Kneehigh and maverick director Emma Rice's production of Tristan & Yseult; a special 40th Festival commission from the internationally acclaimed John Gerrard, and a major exhibition by Brazilian artist Ana Maria Pacheco.
Also featuring are new theatre productions from Druid, the Abbey and London’s Old Vic; The Beach Boys’ legend Brian Wilson at the Absolut Big Top; JFDR, the latest project from Iceland’s Jófríður Ákadóttir; First Thought Talks’ series of conversations on power; Syrian architect and author Marwa al-Sabouni; and a sensational Street Art Programme.
The festival also announced details of festival artists who will be sharing their most treasured vinyl memories in Vinyl Hours, a series of intimate conversations with special guests, who play and speak about their favourite album and what memories it stirs within them - fun, heartbreak and revolution.
